Three kinds of records

148

Inspection write-ups

Chicago places with violation 38 (insects, rodents and animals) in 4 weeks. Plus 751 NYC restaurants cited under codes 04K to 04N (rats, mice, roaches, flies).

The Chicago count leaves out 2 food trucks and carts (the city inspects them at a shared commissary address, not where they work), 1 places the city recorded as out of business, 2 inspections posted twice and 1 visits with no inspection result (such as no entry).

104

New licenses

New Chicago food and child-care licenses issued in 4 weeks, with the license holder's name when it is a company.

2,077

Buildings that failed a rat inspection

NYC privately owned commercial or 4+-unit apartment buildings that failed a rat inspection for rat activity in 4 weeks, with the owner of record when it is a company.

What a record shows, and what it doesn't

It shows

  • An inspector recorded it on that date, in those words.
  • The result the inspector gave, when the record has one.
  • The company that holds the license or owns the building, when the city records name one.

It does not show

  • That pests are there now. Of the 148 Chicago places with violation 38, the inspector noted pests at 67. Most of the rest were door gaps, proofing or a missing log book.
  • A Fail. 92 of those 148 had a Fail result.
  • Who does their pest control now, if anyone.
  • That an NYC citation is final. It can still be dismissed.
  • That they want service. A record is not a request for service.

Where the data comes from

Using a record without sounding like an ambulance chaser

Our advice: don't open with the citation. Introduce yourself as a firm that works nearby and offer an inspection. If they ask why you called, the public record is your answer. Is it legal to use these records?

Price

$149/month per territory

One territory is a circle around your shop (1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 miles) or a set of ZIP codes, in Chicago or New York City. Two areas that one circle can't cover are two territories.

Founding firms pay $79/month for 12 months (first 20 firms). 14-day free trial, no card.

For scale: $149/month buys 2 to 3.7 commercial pest leads from Google Local Services Ads, which run $40–75 per lead (Blue Grid Media, Mar 21, 2026, fetched Nov 7, 2026).

About pestcite

Checked against the source

37 of 37 sampled findings matched the live city records in an independent re-check, and 60 of 60 record links opened the record.

Every line links to the government record. Counts come from fixed rules over the records, not from an AI model.

Check: A separate check, with code that shares nothing with our engine, of sampled findings from that day's run against the live city records, Nov 6, 2026. Records: Food Inspections, Business Licenses, DOHMH New York City Restaurant Inspection Results, Rodent Inspection. How we count

Questions

Does violation 38 mean the place has pests?

No. In the Chicago records we counted, pests were noted at 67 of the 148 places with a violation 38 write-up. Most of the rest were door gaps, proofing or a missing pest-control log book, and some were other things, such as a fly trap hung over a prep table. We label each one.

How accurate is it?

We print what the record says, with the inspector's words, and link the record. Before a list is published, every finding is compared with the saved government record, and a run with any mismatch is not published. City records do contain typos, and we show them as the city wrote them.

Is it legal to use these records for sales?

They are public records. Chicago and New York City publish them as is, with no ban on commercial use, and Chicago requires the disclaimer that is in our footer. We contact no one for you. If you email prospects, CAN-SPAM applies to business email too. Not legal advice.

Which areas do you cover?

The City of Chicago and New York City's five boroughs. No suburbs, New Jersey or Long Island yet. If your shop sits just outside the city, look up the city ZIP codes you service. Elsewhere, leave your email and we'll tell you when your area is in.
