Every Monday you get the records near your shop from the newest complete week. What a record can be depends on the city:
- Chicago: groceries, restaurants, daycares, schools, hospitals and other licensed food places where a city inspector recorded violation 38 (insects, rodents and animals). That can be pests noted, door gaps or a missing pest-control log book, and we label which. Plus new Retail Food and Children's Services licenses.
- New York City: restaurants cited by NYC Health under codes 04K–04N (rats, mice, roaches, flies), plus privately owned commercial or 4+-unit apartment buildings that failed a rat inspection for rat activity. The New York lists have no groceries, daycares or new licenses.
Each line links to the government record.
Why we built it
The records are public but hard to use. A violation 38 write-up can mean live mice or a gap under a door. In 4 weeks of Chicago records (Oct 5 – Nov 1, 2026), inspectors noted pests at 67 of the 148 places with violation 38. Records also post days or weeks late, and the company behind a license sits in another file. We do that sorting for you and show the record, so you can decide.

How we keep it honest
- Every line links to the government record, so you can check it in one click.
- We copy the inspector's words as written.
- Labels like "pests noted", "door gaps" and "missing log book" come from fixed rules, each with its own test. No AI model writes or counts the findings.
- Before a list goes out, each finding is compared with the saved city record. If anything doesn't match, nothing is published.
- On Nov 6, 2026, a separate check, with code that shares nothing with our engine, re-derived 37 sampled findings, from Chicago and New York City, from the live city records: 37 matched and 0 were false. How we check.
- Every record in the app has a "Wrong record?" button. Each report is emailed straight to our co-founder, and we re-check it against the city's record.
